Selection Criteria
  • Greater Hartford area resident attending the education graduate program at Central Connecticut State University, the University of Connecticut Hartford Campus, the University of Hartford, or the University of Saint Joseph.
  • If there are no qualifying applicants who are attending graduate schools in the Hartford area, awards may be made to students attending graduate schools outside of the Hartford area.
  • Strong preference given to applicants pursuing a teaching career.
  • Financial need.
  • Academic excellence.

About This Scholarship

Kathy Steinwedell started this fund in memory of her late husband, Peter, to provide scholarships to graduate students in the field of education.  Peter was a history and social studies teacher at E. C. Goodwin Technical School in New Britain for 23 years.  Scholarships are awarded to Greater Hartford area residents attending graduate education programs at Central Connecticut State University, Saint Joseph College, University of Connecticut Greater Hartford campus, or University of Hartford.
